A Cast of Cowries: A Storytelling and Discussion
with Luisah Teish
Friday, July 28, 6:00-8:00PM
The Sacred Well, 536 Grand Avenue, Oakland
Free, donations gratefully accepted

Listeners are invited to sit back and enjoy these tales, and encouraged to join a discussion examining the meaning of the tales. Some stories will inspire the creation of works of art and rituals. Come join the circle and become folklore.

The wisdom of the ancestors is encoded in the mythology and folklore of the people. Our ancestors sat beneath the Full Moon around a fire and explained the sacredness of Life, Nature, and Spirit through the Art of Storytelling. Their stories provided the guidelines for inner peace, spiritual education, and communal action.

In the African Diaspora, important myths and stories are housed in the body of cowry shells, stones, seeds, and bones. When these are cast, the voice of the Divine is heard and the community is given the opportunity to contemplate the mysteries of creation and apply the stories’ wisdom to contemporary life.

Copies of Luisah Teish's new coloring book Spirit Revealing, Color Healing: A Soulful and Creative Journey will be available for purchase.
