It’s Get Cultured, and after a full day of food fermentation workshops and tasty treats, you’re ready to soak and unwind in the hot tub. Then it’ll be time to put on a look and get ready for some performances under the stars. The campfire will be crackling and warm, inviting you down to the amphitheater for some queer artistry. Tomorrow, you’ll go for a hike between classes, exploring the forests by the creek. By the end of the weekend you’ll feel truly nourished, body, mind, and spirit.
Fermentation is a powerful process that has enriched our diets and health for millennia. These probiotics provide vital nutrients and gut bacteria. So, why not learn to make easy and affordable food ferments that will be an easy boost to your health? That’s the focus of Get Cultured, where we teach different food fermentation recipes and techniques that are simple enough to do at home. During this upcoming weekend we will learn how to brew beer, make super-krauts, and make an immune-boosting tonic known as fire cider.
Of course, culture is just as important for your mind as it is for your gut. At night we will feature fierce local musicians for a fiery fireside performance in our amphitheater. This Get Cultured stars two siren songstresses, Angela LaFlamme and Dawn Meredith Smith. Angela is the lead singer of The MegaFlame Big Band and Cabaret, and specializes in mid-century jazz and “re-conceived” contemporary music. Dawn, a bay area native, is a bicoastal performer who has performed off-Broadway and loves to combine circus flair with cabaret tunes.
Registration includes lodging, meals, basic supplies, and full access to the retreat center grounds, including our new spa. There are partial and full scholarships available for those who need them.
