We are “married” to our bodies for better and for worse. Cycles of health and illness affect and afflict us all. The gnosis faculty of the dreaming mind monitors these cycles and issues reports in the often veiled, symbolic language of dreams. C. G. Jung initiated a study of somatic symbolism and used dreams to make complex differential diagnoses. Dr. Sabini has continued this exploration by collecting over 200 dreams related to a broad spectrum of illnesses. She discovered that somatic conditions tend to be represented by vegetative, animal, and mechanical imagery as well as by persons known to have a given condition. In this workshop, she will discuss dreams that pertain to purely organic conditions; to psychosomatic conditions; and to illnesses shown to have a transformative purpose. Participants are welcome to bring in dreams that forewarned of illness or referred symbolically or directly to a somatic condition.
