Cowboy Poetry & Apple Pie Throwdown
Saturday, September 26, 2:00-5:00PM
Emandal Farm, 16500 Hearst Post Office Road, Willits
Adults, $25 in advance, $30 on the day, Ages 5-12 $10
Each fall Emandal, along with a number of key sponsors, hosts Not JUST Cowboy Poetry: a Benefit Concert on the Lawn - featuring live music and poetry of the Western genre. Artists hosted in the past include Stephanie Davis, Doris Daley, Dave Stamey, Dick Warwick, Sons of the San Joaquin, Richard Chon and the Saddle Cats, Carolyn Dufurrena. Our first ever event in the Willits area premiered with Paul Zarzyski.
This year, we are honored to host Dave Stamey, named, yet again, Western Entertainer of the Year! Proceeds from the event will benefit the Willits Public Library and Willits Daily Bread.
While we host this music event on our beautiful apple tree lawn, we also celebrate the bounty of fall fruit, with a little friendly competition in the form of an Apple Pie Throw Down. Two years ago we had 29 different pies to taste for the price of 5 bucks - with all proceeds going to the Willits Public Library. It is free to enter your pie in the Throw Down, you may enter more than one pie, AND if you enter a pie, you get into the show free! Last year we had only 12 entries! And I thought we were going to have 50! Call, email or write us! Guest judges do a final final taste test to rate the pies on crust, filling, appearance, overall flavor and creativity. Bakers have a chance to win a specially carved rolling pin - not to mention bragging rights for the year!
Our 2015 Cowboy Poetry event takes place on Saturday, September 26th. The show starts at 3:00PM, however we encourage guests to come early before the show to enjoy a day on the farm, and to sample the apple pies. Judging begins at 2:00PM. Many people like to go for swim in the Eel River, take a walk through the garden, or have a picnic lunch on the lawn. So bring the family and make a day of it!
