We’re so excited for Phase 2 of installation at the SRJC Living Learning Lab Garden! A big crew of amazing volunteers sheet mulched the once water-guzzling lawn this spring and now it’s time to plant the food forest. We’ll be planting a gorgeous variety of edibles, habitat providers, and culturally important native plants. We’ll also be finishing a dome-shaped trellis that will serve as an “outdoor classroom” and installing seating. This diverse garden will provide food for students and food for thought! If you’re looking for inspiration for your own garden or just want to be part of this incredible educational project, come on out and garden with us.

If you haven’t heard about the Living Learning Lab yet, here’s more info about the project. Students from Daily Acts’ 2014 Permaculture Design Certification course collaborated with the SRJC to design an educational demonstration garden as their class project. Now that design is coming to fruition! The garden will serve as a demonstration for lawn removal as a drought measure, but really it’s about so much more. Imagine a space where students can learn professional landscaping skills, display sculpture installations, study ethnobotany, create botanical drawings, discover complex ecological interactions, chat with friends beneath ripe persimmons, and glean for the food bank on campus... YOU can help make this vision a reality.

Kids are welcome and scrumptious refreshments will be provided. Bring a lunch, water bottle, and sun protection. After registration, please keep an eye out for an email with a free parking pass and a map/directions. We look forward to seeing you there!

(Workshops will be held on the back section of campus right in front of the gym and across from the library. Turn onto Campus Circle and loop around to parking lot 3 or 4.)

Bring: Lunch (snacks provided), water bottle, sun protection, questions, friends, excitement!
