Ekstatic Bodies in the Tarot:
Yoga and Movement Practice From the Cards

with Mali Scott
Thursday, September 17, 7:00-9:00PM
The Sacred Well, 536 Grand Avenue, Oakland

This is a class on movement practices that will be derived from the Tarot.

We will discuss the animate arcane figures depicted in the Tarot, what they represent, and how to incorporate their meanings into a movement practice.

During this gathering, we will move through a number of different yogic and breathing exercises in order to choreograph our responses to these cards in addition to incorporating the divinatory nature of the Tarot into a literal movement practice.

Mali Scott uses the Tarot as a healing therapy and as a mode of accessing creative, intuitive spaces within the self. She names her practice Ekstatic Bodies in the Tarot from the Greek 'ekstasis' meaning 'displacement' or literally, outside oneself, beside oneself and rapt with transformation. The Tarot is one of the great initiatory traditions, alongside those such as the Kabbalah, the I-Ching, or Yoga, and Mali takes the structure of these cards as one rich with radically integrated symbol-systems that we can use as guides towards the deep wells of regeneration and resourcefulness that each of us holds within our self. It is her great pleasure to encounter individuals and groups in order to guide them into deeper understandings of the cards and to work therapeutically through the material that shows itself during readings.
