This workshop covers the essentials of preserving plant based medicines. We'll cover the basics of water based medicines, tinctures, vinegars and beyond. Plus we'll discuss when to harvest, using dry plant versus fresh and briefly explore historical preservation methods. We'll also discuss the uses of a few key plants that are easily accessible to help get your medicine making practice started.

Each student will go home with new skills to develop, and a tincture made in class.

All materials will be provided!

After a decade of engaging with the plants on his own, Nicholas Weinstein moved to Western Mass where he studied herbal medicine with Brittany Wood Nickerson and Dori Midnight and started a Community Supported Medicine (CSM) program on an organic farm. In 2013 he moved back to Oakland to open Homestead Apothecary which offers a wide array of herbs, remedies and goods all made, collected or grown by mostly local folks who are passionate about their craft. He also has created his own line of herbal medicine products including teas, smoking blends, zines, gem essence sprays and a tincture blend line, which incorporates gem essences made under the light of the moon.
