Capture Summer in a Bottle with Shrubs
with Gillian Helquist
Saturday, July 25, 11:00AM-1:00PM
Grange at SHED, 25 North Street, Healdsburg
In the height of summer in Sonoma County, there is an abundance of ripe, fresh, fruit that demands preservation.
Enter the shrub. A favorite farmhouse beverage since Colonial times, shrubs are seasonally-based drinking vinegars made from freshly muddled fruit juice and herbs. The creative and colorful elixirs are staples of the SHED Fermentation Bar and are an easy way to preserve your summer produce without having to can, pickle, or freeze.
With the instruction of SHED’s fermentation crafter Gillian Helquist, learn how to make seasonal shrubs and explore the principles of flavor components in each one, introducing you to a world of creative homemade beverages and a new method of rapid preservation that can be used year-round.
In this hands-on class, participants will taste and learn how to make three seasonal shrubs, and will take home 3-oz bottles of each. Each participant will receive a 10% discount on purchases in SHED’s retail store the day of the class, perfect for stocking up on preservation supplies. There is a minimum number of participants required to run the class, so reserve your space early.
