A Materia Medica is an in-depth treasury of information about the medicinal qualities of plants. This three part class will cover at least 12 medicinal plants and the actions of these herbs in different body systems.  We will also explore herbal energetics, plant meditation, folklore, traditions and older recipes of these plants. We will sample tinctures, teas and other medicines to familiarize ourselves with different plant applications. This series is geared towards beginners but all levels are welcome. Bring something to take notes with and leave with newfound plant allies as well as handouts for recipes for working with each of the plants.

Liz Migliorelli, aka Sister Spinster, is a western clinical herbalist and magic maker. Her herbal work is inspired by the folklore and energetics of the plants and aims to find herbs that bring one’s personal mythology into balance. She teaches at the Ohlone Herbal Center in Berkeley and at the Ancestral Apothecary school in Oakland. She is the founder of Sister Spinster Apothecary, where she is committed to making flower essences in love and ceremony for her community.
