An Open Love Letter To Black Fathers blends text, poetry, song and dance to unveil the deeply moving relationships between several father-daughter pairs, by whom themes of addiction, sexual violence, and incarceration are explored in tandem with forgiveness, loyalty, and unconditional love. Written by Delina Patrice Brooks, the script is autobiographical and also includes true accounts of 8 African American daughters who were interviewed during the research phase of this project.

Through live music and a cast of five women - a mix of trained dancers, actors, poets and vocalists - Open Love Letter exposes some of our most pained collective memories; and yet it is an invitation to re-view the stories of ourselves, our families, and our communities in ways that center us as brave rather than broken, as visionaries rather than victims. This work is a call to re-evaluation, a call to courage, a call to forgiveness and collective healing.
