Edible Weeds in Oakland!
with Philip Stark of Berkeley Open Source Food
Saturday, May 9, 12:00-2:00PM
Free, please RSVP to info@WildOakland.org
Aliens occupy Oakland. Let’s eat them! Turn the world into a free farmers’ market by learning to identify wild and feral edible plants that pervade the Bay Area. Expect to encounter at least a dozen tasty invasive species from Europe, South America, and Africa. Something is always in season.
Our guide for the day will be Philip Stark, chair of the Department of Statistics at UC Berkeley. Stark and his colleagues are studying the availability, nutritional value, and possible toxicity of wild edibles that volunteer in urban food deserts.
