Join local naturalist and mycologist Debbie Viess, co-founder of the Bay Area Mycological Society, for a fun talk on local mushrooms that sprout in our Bay Area woods, lawns, and even gardens. Beautiful photos, stories, and plenty of nontoxic, easy-to-digest science.
Debbie Viess, aka "Amanitarita," is a biologist and naturalist, writer and artist. A former zoologist and animal behaviorist, she was seduced away from her work with the furred and feathered by the fascinating world of fungi, and has been seriously obsessed with various fungal studies for over twenty years. A long time Bay Area resident, she is the co-founder of the Bay Area Mycological Society (BAMS!), the newest and most dynamic, science-centric mushroom club in the San Francisco Bay Area. Debbie has written about mushrooms extensively both online and in print, and has lectured about mushrooms to mushroom enthusiasts and the general public across the country. She is a frequent source of mushroom information for media of all sorts, including newspapers, radio, and television. Look for her in a forest near you!
