Have you always longed to attend the elegant Embassy Ball from My Fair Lady? Now here's your chance!
The pleasure of your company is requested at a ball at the Transylvanian Embassy in London to welcome her Majesty Ersebeth IV, Queen of Transylvania.
The celebrated chamber ensemble Bangers & Mash will play an evening of late Victorian and Edwardian dances. Dance waltzes, polkas, mazurka waltzes, schottisches, and The Lancers, and some of the new dances from the Americas: The ragtime one-step, two-step, Hesitation Waltz, and tango. All set dances will be briefly taught and called and we will have a pre-ball workshop on the newer dances at 7:00PM.
Rumor has it that the celebrated phonetics expert Professor Higgins and almost equally famous linguistic detective Zoltan Karpathy - always sure to delight us with their wit (Well, some might call it "satire") - will attend the ball. Colonel Pickering's young cousin - a Miss Doolittle - will be making her first appearance. She is said to be the Beauty of the Season.
Evening dress, ball dress, or dress uniform from 1900-1912 is admired but not required (Because of our love for all things truly Edwardian, we have set the action back four years to 1908). Native Transylvanian or Hungarian costume is also very welcome.
There will be a light snack buffet (your potluck contributions to the buffet are welcome; Transylvania has a proud heritage but we are a small country, after all!).
And in case you are wondering who this lovely Miss Doolittle really is… well, so are we.
