This evening, author Margaret C. Murray will talk about how she writes her novels. Margaret spent a decade researching the pre-Puebloan culture of the Southwest while writing her novels of magic realism, Spiral and Sundagger.net. Margaret will read short excerpts from three novels, concentrating on how she began writing: starting with the earth and from that vantage point, looking up to the sky, and seeing the possibility - the spirit - from which the story emerges.
Margaret will share videos from her trips to Chaco Canyon, New Mexico and Chimney Rock, CO, where last summer she followed the migration of her characters from her upcoming novel, Spiral. “The ancient Anasazi of the Four Corners area knew the connection between earth, sky, spirit and story too. All you need to do is to look at their amazing Great Houses in relation to the heavens to see that,” she explains. The reading will be followed by a Q&A where Margaret is eager to hear about your writing experiences too.
Margaret C. Murray was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University and Hunter College. She attended the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center and the Squaw Valley Screenwriters Conference. Margaret is the owner of WriteWords Press and has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for many years, most recently in Sebastopol and Pinole. She is the mother of three and grandmother of two.
