A Victorian Costume Ball in Honour of Mr. Edgar Allan Poe
presented by PEERS

Doors Open 6:45PM, Dance Lesson: 7:00PM, Dancing Begins: 8:00PM
Arlington Community Church, 52 Arlington Avenue, Kensington
Join the celebrated American poet Edgar Allan Poe in Paris at a costume ball in his honour. The celebrated Baguette Quartette will play an evening of early 19th century ballroom dance music, including their many ravishing Parisian waltzes. As their many fans will attest, the Quartette is one of the most divinely danceable dance bands around.
For those wishing a brush-up in Victorian couple dances, there will be a pre-ball workshop at 7:00PM, and all set dances will be briefly taught and called at the ball.
Evening dress from the 1830s and 1840s - any class - is admired but not required, fantasy and historical costumes inspired by Poe's stories and poetry are extremely welcome, and modern evening dress is a fine substitute for period costume! Masks are optional. For costume inspiration, you may want to have a look at Jean Martin's photo gallery from PEERS' 2011 Masque of the Red Death.
Punch and a light snack buffet of French treats will be served; your potluck contributions will be very welcome.
