Urban Nature Connections: Bird Language Leaders Workshop
with Jon Young
Saturday, February 7, 9:30AM-4:00PM
Rob Hill Campground, 1475 Central Magazine Road, San Francisco
This free workshop is presented by The Presidio Trust and Golden Gate Audubon society. The Bird Language Leader Event is a multi generational experience, designed for people who are looking to deepen their connection with the natural world in a rich, joyous, and real way. Parents and educators will find this especially exciting, as Bird Language and Deep Nature Connection, offers a simple and easy approach in fostering life long personal relationships with Nature for their children and students.
The skilled nature connection mentors from Weaving Earth will facilitate this guided field experience introducing participants to a bird sit, mapping, and debrief process. This will give participants a first hand understanding of the powerful experiences that urban youth will experience in future events.
Jon Young will then offer the keynote address of the day. Jon, author of What the Robin Knows: How the Birds Reveal the Secrets of the Natural World and Coyote's Guide to Connecting with Nature, has for the last thirty-one years pioneered a Deep Nature Connection Mentoring Model blending ancient and modern wisdom. Jon was mentored from the age of 10 as a naturalist, tracker, survivalist, and mentor by author Tom Brown Jr., forming the basis for Jon's work-including bird and animal communication, and building essential cultural processes for communities and organizations that help build connection with nature, self and others. Now as Co-Founder of the 8 Shields Institute, Jon collects, studies and tests best practices in the realms of cultural mentoring techniques for effective nature connection, based on refined and holistic tracking skills. The model's influence has provided the framework for several hundred programs throughout the world.
