Calling all nerds who love fascinating presentations AND alcoholic beverages! The talks will begin with Professor Jing Xu, who will explain the tiny, internal molecular machines that help keep us functional and healthy. Mark Pauline, founder of Survival Research Laboratories talks about the convergence of art and science to create large-scale performance machines. Before the talks, construct a light-powered LEGO car, build a Mindstorm Lego Robot, or compete in our Center-wide scavenger hunt. Enjoy a live presentation of Cosmos 360, Inspired by Space, in our planetarium, and then view the stars through one of our historic telescopes.
Drake’s Brewery beer on sale. The Grilled Cheez Guy will have food for sale. Food and drinks available for purchase starting at 7:00PM, talks begin at 8:00PM.
Jing is a faculty in biophysics at UC Merced. While not in the habit of flexing muscles, she dreams of being immersed in awesome sound systems, and claims to see beauty in a lot of places.
Mark Pauline has been building and destroying machines for over 35 years, and is the founder and leader of Survival Research Laboratories. The organization creates their own machines out of industrial detritus and staging underground events in San Francisco that were full of flying metal, shooting fire and lots and lots of noise.
