Museum of Art and History, 705 Front Street, Santa Cruz, 831-429-1964
Dive into the rich history of Santa Cruz County in our brand new, renovated History Gallery. Explore new displays, more interactivity, and diverse voices. History empowers us to build a stronger community. You’ll find stories of community members like you who make a difference. To welcome the new history gallery, the White Hawk Indian Council will bless the gallery with a dance performance from 7:00-7:30PM on the second floor landing (in front of the gallery).
Talks at 5:30PM: Catch talks about Free Radio Santa Cruz (101.3 FM) with members of the FRSC Collective. Learn about the 20+ year history of Free Radio Santa Cruz, one of the nation’s longest running pirate radio stations. Free Radio Santa Cruz is an unlicensed, commercial free, cooperatively run, community supported radio station. Learn about its humble beginnings in 1995 in the basements and bike carts of Santa Cruz, to the FCC raid in 2004, to the current challenges the radio station is facing. Meet former and current DJs on the station, ask them questions, find out how you can get involved, and learn how to get your own show.
Live Music at 6:30-9:00PM: Dance to Oakland-based indie rock band Feed Me Jack in Abbott Square and enjoy yummy food trucks on Cooper Street.
Art Activity from 5:00-9:00PM: Craft tissue paper marigold chains in the atrium. Your marigolds will be used as a collaborative installation for our annual Día de los Muertos Ofrenda.
