Three amazing events!

The Annual Meeting of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific,
10:00AM-5:00PM

Attend a full-day family astronomy festival, Universe 2015, held at Chabot Space and Science Center in Oakland. The cost of admission is the regular entry fee for the Center: $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and students, and $14 for youth ages 3-12. Children under 3 are admitted free. Tickets may be purchased ahead of time or at the door the day of the event.

Featuring:
Public lectures by noted astronomers in Chabot’s MegaDome Theater: Mark Showalter on Pluto, Natalie Batalha on exoplanets, David Morrison on asteroid impacts, and Gibor Basri on what defines a planet these days, moderated by Andrew Fraknoi.
Hourly planetarium shows at no extra cost.
Children’s Discovery Lab with scheduled activities designed for pre-school and early learners.
“Hobbyists Room” showcasing amateur astronomy projects and activities.
Astronomy activities and presentations designed for families
Discussions with professional & amateur astronomers in the outdoor amphitheater.
Evening observing through the large Chabot telescopes at no additional cost.
Exhibits, a telescope raffle, and information tables
Come early to get (free) tickets to lectures and shows; all programs are first come, first served.

The ASP Annual Awards Ceremony, 5:30-7:00PM

This event is FREE with a suggested donation of $20 to help support the ASP’s programs. See the 2015 award recipients receive their honors, including:
The Bruce Gold Medal to Prof. Douglas N.C. Lin (University of California, Santa Cruz)
The Emmons Teaching Award to Dr. Edward Prather (University of Arizona)
The Klumpke-Roberts Prize for Popularization of Astronomy to the creators of the Astronomy Picture of the Day website (Dr. Robert Nemiroff and Dr. Jerry Bonnell)

The Ceremony includes a lecture by Robert Nemiroff and Jerry Bonnell showcasing the best Astronomy Pictures of the Day on the huge Megadome screen!

The ASP Awards Dinner, 7:00-9:30PM

Come meet the honorees, distinguished members of the astronomy community, the ASP Board of Directors, and ASP staff. This year’s ASP Awards Banquet will feature a delicious gourmet buffet-style dinner in celebration of the 2015 award recipients. The buffet will include seafood paella, vegetable paella, dim sum, a pasta station, a meat carving station, assorted desserts, wine, and beer. Goody bags with gifts will be given to all attendees, and the Chabot telescopes will be open for viewing during the event. Cost $100 for ASP Members; $125 for non-members.
