Captain Jack of Bears,
High Priest of the Break of Play
Member of the Council of Elders
2009 Priest in the Wildflower Tradition
2010 High Priest in the Green Men
Dedicated Deities and Spirits:
Frigga, Heimdall, Bear, and Hermes
Jack of Bears serves the Divine as a Warder, a Will-Worker, and a Seer, and he finds great joy in serving the community in these capacities. He works with animal spirits, stone lore, energy work, and of course: the Gods. All in order to empower and enrich the lives of his family and community. He further uses the archetypes of the Herald, Father, and Sage to explore and honor the Divine Masculine in its many guises. Jack of Bears is an active leader in CAYA's men's work, having founded CAYA's Brotherhood of the Moon, and having served as the Founding Tribal High Priest of the Green Men. Jack is the loving partner of Stella Iris.
As a leader, Jack of Bears believes that authority exists to create accountability, and that everyone is a potential leader with unique gifts to offer their community. He feels strongly that a good leader must be a listener as well as an exemplar; as ready to get out of the way as to show the way. Close to his heart are the words of Lao Tzu: "A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves."
A self-styled Monk, Pirate, and Existential Mechanic; Jack of Bears is a Sun Child of the Southwest, a Many-Mothered Son of the Seas, a Defiant Delver in Dreams, an Animal Speaker, a Mighty Nurturer, and a Ferocious Guardian of the Fringe. Jack hails from a veritable Rainbow of Bear Tribes, and is a Determined Devotee of the Little Gods and all Spirits Wild and Fae.
"As a lifelong Priest, I believe religion is simply a tool that we use to achieve spirituality, and life an intimate dance woven between readers and tellers of tales. The truths we all seek are old as the Earth, and as plain to see. The work that remains us is bringing our selves into joyous alignment with our dreams, the world, and all the life therein. We're all born equal, all given the same gift to do with what we may: Life."
The Break of Play:
"Man is most nearly himself when he achieves the seriousness of a child at play."
As a seasoned warder, I first served CAYA as a Priest of Mindful Will. I taught how to ground, center, and shield, and observed the practice regularly. This practice was welcomed in our community, but soon supplemented by Yeshe Rabbit and Stella Iris with the practice of 'opening': taking down the barriers we have built. As the proud papa of a wee boy, I have since devoted myself to the moment where the stiffness and confines of our daily processes are laid to rest, and the seriousness of play is achieved. The moment when we are made free to learn, to discover, and to truly work magic in the world. The Break of Play.
Code of Ethics:
I am a Father of change.
I am engaged in a continuous act of becoming.
I am but one of the many in this world who are in need of love and compassion.
I serve the Divine as an agent of healing and growth.
I strive to be authentic and present in each moment.
I hold space for all that I hold sacred.
My love is courageous, boundless, and free.
